Decluttering & clearance

Careful, unhurried, and at your pace.

Whether you’re clearing a single room, preparing to downsize, or managing a family home after a difficult time — with respect for what matters and no pressure to rush decisions.

Not taking bookings until November 2026. We’re opening one service at a time so every booking gets a properly checked helper. To hear the moment Decluttering & Clearance reopens, send us a message or ring us.

What’s included

Decluttering & Clearance, in practice.

What we do

  • Room-by-room decluttering and sorting
  • Charity shop drop-offs on your behalf
  • Licensed disposal of everything that can’t be reused
  • Packing support ahead of a move or downsize
  • Light organisation — wardrobes, garages and lofts (loft boarding not included)

What we don’t do

  • We don’t handle probate, valuations, or the sale of goods. For anything of significant value we’ll always suggest a proper valuer before a single thing is cleared.

Pricing

One rate, agreed before we start.

From £38/hour

Two-hour minimum. There is no VAT to add. Larger house clearances are quoted individually after a free, no-obligation visit.

Anything we take away goes to a licensed waste site. You pay the site’s fee for each load at cost, as shown on its ticket, plus the round trip to the site at 55p a mile (HMRC’s approved rate) — both itemised after the visit, and we tell you the site and its rate when we agree your day. Charity-shop drop-offs are charged the same way, by the mile. Fridges, freezers, mattresses and televisions carry a separate charge at the tip, which we will tell you about before anything is loaded. We cannot take asbestos.

Rough guide to site charges (October 2026, based on our nearest site’s prices, including the VAT the site charges): general household waste about £240 a tonne; bulky furniture about £300 a tonne; garden waste about £54 a tonne. The site charges a minimum of half a tonne (about £120 for general waste, £150 for bulky furniture). Mattresses, sofas and other upholstered seats are charged per item, from about £54 each. A small van load from a single room is often 200–400 kg. The site’s ticket, not this guide, decides what you pay. To keep it down: anything that can go in your own household bins, recycling or garden waste bin over the next collections costs you nothing — we can leave it bagged for you to put out over your next collections, and charity-shop items are never charged a site fee.

Book

Back in November.

Decluttering & Clearance isn’t taking bookings until November 2026 — the details above are how it will work when it reopens. Send us a message and we’ll tell you the day it does. Members can spend their credit on Garden & Outdoor, Odd-Jobs & DIY or Home Tech Help in the meantime.

Clearing a whole house is different. Don’t book hours for that — ring us and we will come and look, free and with no obligation, and quote you properly. Booking hours online is for a room, a wardrobe, a garage, or a hand with sorting. Your helper messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time. Prefer to talk first? How it works

From booking to job done.

  1. You book the time you wantTwo, three or four hours — for longer, ring us. The price is the hours times the rate, you see the total before you pay, and you’re confirmed straight away.
  2. The first free helper takes itYour booking goes straight out to every helper who covers your village and does that work. Whoever is free first takes it, and messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time.
  3. They say what’s realistic, then get on with itYou are booking time rather than a fixed job, so your helper will tell you what can genuinely be done in it. You decide what matters most.

Questions

The ones people actually ask.

Can someone sit with me while I decide what to keep?

Yes — this is often the most valuable part of the visit. There’s no rush, and nothing leaves the house without your say-so.

Do you handle sensitive situations, like bereavement or downsizing?

Yes, regularly and carefully. If it helps, tell us beforehand so we can send a helper experienced with this kind of visit.

What happens to items I don’t want?

Usable items go to local charity shops on your behalf. The rest is disposed of under our waste carrier licence — Environment Agency upper tier, registration CBDU657240 — and you can ask for a waste transfer note. That note matters: if your rubbish is ever fly-tipped, the liability follows you, not the man with the van.

What if we don’t get through it in the hours I paid for?

Buy more time if you want to, or leave it there — there is no obligation either way. Your helper will tell you honestly how much is left before you decide.
