Odd-jobs & DIY help

The list on the fridge, finally done.

The shelf that’s never gone up, the curtain rail still on the floor, the flat-pack wardrobe still in its box.

What’s included

Odd-Jobs & DIY, in practice.

What we do

  • Flat-pack furniture assembly
  • Shelving, curtain rails, mirrors and picture hanging
  • Lightbulb and battery changes, including hard-to-reach fittings
  • Minor repairs: sticking doors, loose handles, draught-proofing
  • Furniture moving within the home
  • General ‘many hands’ help around the house

What we don’t do

  • Anything requiring a Gas Safe registered engineer or a certified electrician — boiler work, rewiring, consumer units. That is a legal safety boundary, and we’ll always point you to a qualified specialist rather than attempt it ourselves.

Pricing

One rate, agreed before we start.

From £35/hour

One-hour minimum. There is no VAT to add. Most odd-job visits take one to two hours. Until November 2026 we aren’t taking rubbish away, so anything a job leaves goes in your own bins or is left neatly bagged. Once we are, the waste site’s fee and the round trip at 55p a mile will be added at cost (as a rough guide, about £240 a tonne for general waste, with a minimum charge of about £120). Anything that fits in your own bins costs nothing extra.

Book

Pick your hours and a start time.

The minimum for Odd-Jobs & DIY is one hour, the price is your hours times £35, and you see the total before you pay anything. Choose a start time on the booking page, pay by card, and you’re confirmed straight away. Payment is handled by Stripe — Moorstead never sees or stores your card details.

Already a member? Use the Book with your credit button in your welcome email, or in any monthly credit email. It opens this same calendar, takes nothing at the moment you book, and within a minute takes the price from your credit first, applies your member discount to anything beyond it and charges only the rest to the card you joined with — with an itemised email to show what was used. Lost the email? Ring us or email hello@moorstead.co.uk and we’ll resend it, or book it for you.

Not sure how long your list will take? Book an hour. If it turns into two, your helper will tell you before the clock goes past what you booked, and you decide. Your helper messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time. Prefer to talk first? Horwich & Blackrod 01204 588749, Adlington, Chorley, Anderton & Coppull 01257 822489.

How it works

From booking to job done.

  1. You book the time you wantOne, two or three hours — for longer, ring us. The price is the hours times the rate, you see the total before you pay, and you’re confirmed straight away.
  2. The first free helper takes itYour booking goes straight out to every helper who covers your village and does that work. Whoever is free first takes it, and messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time.
  3. They say what’s realistic, then get on with itYou are booking time rather than a fixed job, so your helper will tell you what can genuinely be done in it. You decide what matters most.

Questions

The ones people actually ask.

Do I need to buy the materials?

Generally yes — though we’re happy to pick up small items — agreed with you first and added at cost to your after-visit invoice — or work with whatever you already have in.

What if the job takes longer than expected?

We’ll always tell you before continuing past the time you’ve booked. No surprise bills.

Is there a job too small?

No. A five-minute lightbulb change is exactly the kind of thing we exist for — though the minimum booking is an hour, so it is worth saving up a few jobs for the same visit.

What if none of the times suit me?

You choose the day and start time yourself when you book. If none of them work, ring us or send us a message and we will look for something that does. And if we genuinely can’t cover a time you have booked, you get a full refund.
