Garden & outdoor maintenance
A garden that’s got away from you needs an afternoon, not a lecture.
We’ll get it back under control and keep it that way, on whatever schedule suits you.
Until November 2026: garden waste goes in your own garden waste bin, at no extra cost — we aren’t taking waste away yet. Gutter clearing visits start on 2 November. Anything that won’t fit can be left neatly bagged for your next collections.
What’s included
Garden & Outdoor, in practice.
What we do
- Lawn mowing, edging and strimming
- Hedge trimming and shaping
- Gutter clearing — from the ground with a gutter vacuum, booked as its own service at £45 an hour. No ladders against your house, and never onto a roof
- Weeding, borders and seasonal tidy-ups
- Leaf clearance, with cuttings into your own garden waste bin (we start taking waste away later in the season)
- Light driveway and patio weed and moss treatment
- Watering and plant care while you’re away
What we don’t do
- Tree surgery, felling, or anything requiring a chainsaw. Roof access of any kind — pitched, flat, conservatory, garage or dormer — and ladder work at two-storey height. Anything above single-storey we do from the ground with specialist equipment, or not at all. We’re happy to recommend a specialist for the rest.
Pricing
One rate, agreed before we start.
Two-hour minimum booking. There is no VAT to add. Green waste goes in your own garden waste bin, at no extra cost. Until November 2026 we aren’t taking waste away; once we are, anything that doesn’t fit will add the site’s fee at cost (roughly £54 a tonne, with a minimum charge of about £27) and mileage to the site at 55p a mile — see how to keep this down. Want regular visits? Book each one up to 60 days ahead, or join Moorstead Membership to pay less on every hour.
Gutter clearing is its own service: £45 an hour, minimum two hours. Two hours £90 · three hours £135, bookable online from 2 November 2026 (until then, send us a message and we’ll tell you the day it opens), with the total shown before you pay. Bigger houses simply take longer, so you pay for the time your gutters actually need. We clear from the ground with a gutter vacuum on reach poles — no ladders against your house and never onto a roof. Leaves and moss go in your own garden waste bin and any gritty silt is bagged into your general bin, at no extra cost. If your helper can’t reach part of it safely from the ground, they’ll tell you and leave that part rather than take a risk.
Book
Pick your hours and a start time.
The minimum for Garden & Outdoor is two hours, the price is your hours times £36, and you see the total before you pay anything. Choose a start time on the booking page, pay by card, and you’re confirmed straight away. Payment is handled by Stripe — Moorstead never sees or stores your card details.
Already a member? Use the Book with your credit button in your welcome email, or in any monthly credit email. It opens this same calendar, takes nothing at the moment you book, and within a minute takes the price from your credit first, applies your member discount to anything beyond it and charges only the rest to the card you joined with — with an itemised email to show what was used. Lost the email? Ring us or email hello@moorstead.co.uk and we’ll resend it, or book it for you.
Mowing, hedges, weeding, seasonal tidy-ups. Your helper messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time. Prefer to talk first? Horwich & Blackrod 01204 588749, Adlington, Chorley, Anderton & Coppull 01257 822489.
How it works
From booking to job done.
- You book the time you wantTwo, three or four hours — for longer, ring us. The price is the hours times the rate, you see the total before you pay, and you’re confirmed straight away.
- The first free helper takes itYour booking goes straight out to every helper who covers your village and does that work. Whoever is free first takes it, and messages you the day before with a tighter arrival time.
- They say what’s realistic, then get on with itYou are booking time rather than a fixed job, so your helper will tell you what can genuinely be done in it. You decide what matters most.
Questions
The ones people actually ask.
Do I need to be home?
No — many customers give us access to the garden and we let you know once it’s done, with photos on request.
Do you bring your own tools?
Yes, our helpers bring their own equipment. If you’d prefer your own mower or tools used, just say so when booking.
Can I get the same gardener every time?
Ask for them by name when you book — or just write “same as last time” — and we offer them the job on their own first, for two hours (30 minutes if the visit is less than 48 hours away). If they can’t take it, it goes to the rest of the panel — we would rather your garden got done than kept you waiting.
What happens to the green waste?
Until November 2026 it goes in your own garden waste bin, and anything that won’t fit is left bagged for your next collections — we aren’t taking waste away yet. From then on, it can come away with us, to a licensed waste site. Moorstead is a registered waste carrier — Environment Agency upper tier, registration CBDU657240 — which is the bit a cash-in-hand gardener usually isn’t. Taking it away adds two things, both itemised after the visit: the round trip to the waste site at 55p a mile (HMRC’s approved rate), and the site’s fee for your load at cost. We tell you the site and its rate when we agree your day. If you would rather keep it for your own garden waste bin or compost, just say and there is nothing to add.
How do I keep the waste cost down?
Cheapest first: your own garden waste bin. Cuttings that go in your own garden waste bin cost you nothing extra — no tip charge and no mileage. We fill it as far as the council allows (lid closed, no soil or turf, nothing left beside it) and, from November 2026, take away only what doesn’t fit — until then, anything that won’t fit is left neatly bagged for your next collections. If you don’t have one, it can pay for itself the first time it saves a trip to the tip: Adlington, Chorley, Anderton, Heath Charnock, Rivington, Coppull, Whittle-le-Woods, Withnell, Brinscall and Wheelton (Chorley Council) — £40 per bin a year (1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027), bin supplied, collected fortnightly; sign up at chorley.gov.uk/gardenwaste. Horwich and Blackrod (Bolton Council) — your green bin is part of the standard collection at no extra charge; a second green bin is £36 to set up plus £37.50 a year (price held to 31 March 2027) at bolton.gov.uk/extragreenbin.
If it does need to go to a waste site, you pay the site’s charge at cost, from its ticket, plus the round trip at 55p a mile. As a rough guide (October 2026, based on our nearest site’s prices, including the VAT the site charges): garden waste costs about £54 a tonne, general household waste about £240 a tonne and bulky furniture about £300 a tonne. A typical trailer of hedge cuttings weighs 150–250 kg, but the site charges a minimum of half a tonne, so expect about £27 for a trailer of garden waste (£120 for general waste). We tell you the site and its actual rates when we agree your day; the ticket, not this guide, decides what you pay.
What if none of the times suit me?
You choose the day and start time yourself when you book. If none of them work, ring us or send us a message and we will look for something that does. And if we genuinely can’t cover a time you have booked, you get a full refund.
